The Pacific Slope is a history of California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah,

political ties with the rest of the nation; the expansion and "sophistication"

San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Salt Lake City; the alternations of
hope and discontent among farmers and laborers.
The chapters dealing with the West of the twentieth century--which
receives more attention here than in most similar histories--explore the
forces of reform and reaction in politics; the continuing international
connections of the West and its fluctuating attitudes toward foreign
minorities; the rise of vacationing and tourist travel; the impact of the
electric railroad, the steam railroad, and the automobile upon Western
life; the great growth of population and industry since World War II,
and intellectual and cultural changes.

Condition: Good/Good. Ex-library with usual markings, stickers, and
card pocket. Quite clean and crisp pages. The dust jacket protector is
taped to the covers, the tape has yellowed leaving stains on the
endpapers. Some soiling and a 3/4" tear on the dust jacket, rubbing on
dj protector.
